Medals for locals in BUCS Champs in Olympic Stadium

Several of University of Ulster and Queens University athletics top athletes are competing at the London Olympic Stadium this weekend as part of the BUCS championships.
The association has managed to secure use of the track as a test event for the 2012 Olympics, and over 40,000 tickets for the event sold out in minutes.
Claire Wilkinson certainly made her mark at these championships by winning the Gold medal on Sunday in the Pole Vault with 3.80m and a close three attempts at 3.90m.
Adam McMullen (UU) was beaten by a mere 1cm to take the silver position with 7.37m behind Maisey-Curtis with 7.38m. This is great season opener by the Mid Ulster athlete.
Joanna Mills put Queens on the medal table in the 400m Final with a bronze (54.84) behind Laura Wake and Emma Pullen.
Hannah Lewis also has put herself firmly back in the game by wunning asilver medal in the Long Jump with 5.87m. Hannah also won a Silver as part of the University of Bath 4 x 100 relay team. They finished second behind a strong Loughborugh team. with Hannah running the second leg.
Daniel Mooney (LJM) ran 3.47.93 in the 1500m Final to take 4th spot while John Houston (UU) set new figures in the 400m semi-final with 49.04 for third in his heat. Beechmount's Paul McKee still holds the championship record of 45.92 in this event (400m) from the year 2000. Mark Hoy (UU) also had a great new PB in the 800m with 1.53.97.
On Saturday there were two fourth place finishes for Alan Kennedy in the Triple Jump with a best of 14.90m. Kathy Hetherington had a best of 36.77m in the Discus to miss out on the medals.
In the 400mH Final, Christine McMahon (QUB) finished in 1:01.40 for 6th place in a race won by Ireland's Justine Kinney. Jason Harvey (UU) progressed through the rounds to the 400mH Final but unfortunately fell in the final stages of the race.
He said "Gutted is an understatement, to fall when in a great position in a race is hard to take. I will learn from this weekend and take to next race".
Dean Adams made the semi final of the 100m and took 6th place in 11.03 but was in a tough heat with Harry Aikines Aryeetey in his heat and did not progress.
