Harty reduces NI Steeplechase record again in Germany

Kerry Harty
Newcastle's Kerry Harty celebrated her 30th birthday in style in Bottror, Germany over the weekend when she set yet another NI steeplechase record.
Her time of 10 mins 8.84 secs beats her previous one month old record by some 2 secs. Kerry has now set a total of 3 steeplechase records plus a 5,000 metres record all in the space of 7 weeks.
It all adds to a memorable athletics season where there have been no less than 9 NI Senior records plus one equalled record.
On this latest performance Kerry explained that she could have got a faster time had she not been so ambitious in her early pace which then caused her energy problems in the closing stages. She considered the race a learning experience for her next outing in Gent at the end of the month.
Meanwhile in Heusden, Belgium, Bangor sprint star Amy Foster was thwarted by heavy rain which affected times. She nevertheless finished a credible 3rd in the 200 metres behind US winner Jasmine Chaney in a time of 23.79secs which is her 3rd fastest ever and only 0.21secs slower than her recent NI record. A busy Amy also finished 5th in the 100 metres in 11.61 secs behind Olympic sprinter Debbie Ferguson.
