Gerry Lynch elected new Athletics NI President

John Glover & Gerry Lynch

Gerry Lynch from City of Derry Spartans A.C. was elected as the new President of Athletics NI at the recent AGM.

Gerry has, for many years, been a driving force for athletics  in his club and in the wider community in the North West. He has acted as race director for many road and cross country races including the very successful annual Waterside Half Marathon.

He takes over from out going President John Glover who had completed his two year term. During his comments after the election Gerry mentioned that his immediate predecessor John Glover would be a hard act to follow having fulfilled nearly 80 engagements of varying types during his term of office.

He also said that he was honestly delighted and very honoured to have been elected as President and he would try his best to emulate some of the very distinguished people who have held the office of President in the past.

He said, "I'm not accustomed to public speaking weighed down by a chain of office but will do my best to maintain the dignity of the office, perhaps having to dispense with my normal summer outfit of cut away jeans in favour of more appropriate presidential dress!"

Athletics NI would like to thank John Glover for all his hard work and dedication and wish Gerry Lynch all the best as new President.
