Flahavan's XC Squad spends a day by the sea
The second Flahavan’s Junior Cross country Squad met for a session in the beautiful setting of Portstewart beach on Sunday 14th October.
The squad has been selected from the top finishers of the Flahavan’s Athletics NI Cross Country Primary School Final held in February 2012. The children come from all over the province and meet three times a year to take part in quality coaching sessions over different terrain.
The Portstewart session gave the children their first opportunity to run on sand and do some hill sessions. The sand dunes of the Strand provided an ideal backdrop for some core strength exercises and relay races. As it was a rare good day some of the kids took the opportunity to run through the waves for a refreshing cool down!
Athletics NI Development Officer Heather Ardis said:
“The Portstewart Strand session is a popular one and it was great to see such a turnout from all over Northern Ireland. We got great weather for the children to experience new aspects of athletics training as well as incorporating fun and games. They all loved the Flahavan’s goodie bags they received at the end. We look forward to the next squad session in Antrim”.
