Double Bronze for Brown at IPC Championships
Sally Brown Medals in the IPC European Athletics Championships
A 20-strong Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team are competing at the IPC European Athletics Championships in Stadskanaal, Netherlands (24-28 June).
On Day 2 there were bronze medals from Olivia Breen (Leroy Elliot) in the T38 200m, Sally Brown (Philip Tweedie) in the T46 200m and Sophia Warner (Steve King) in the T35 200m, taking the overall medal total to ten.
Brown, who is only a year older than her team mate Breen, is already a World Championships bronze medallist over 200m but was making her return to major competitive action after almost 12 months out with injury.
She clocked 27.42 (+2.7m/s) behind winner Nikol Rodomakina (25.88) and was content just to be back on the track and healthy.
On Day 3 she went on to finish third in the 100m to secure her second bronze medal in a time of 13.61s.

Brown Selected on GB & NI Team for IPC Championships
Gateshead’s Stephen Miller is one of the longest-serving members of the Aviva GB & NI team, 16-year-old Sally Brown (Philip Tweedie), a 2011 World Championships T46 200m bronze medallist, is one of the youngest and will also benefit hugely from the event:
The last edition of the IPC European Athletics Championships took place in Finland in 2005.
“We’re fortunate to have a number of high quality competition opportunities across Europe and further afield over the next few months,” says Aviva GB & NI Head Coach Peter Eriksson. “While this event wasn’t in everyone’s plans, it provides the perfect platform to develop our athletes where we believe that’s a priority, and in other cases fine tune their performances in events where they will be required to step up their game against their toughest rivals - and for many those athletes are in Europe - prior to London. It’s also a good test for the younger athletes.”
