Officials Education Programme

Officials-JoyRobin.JPG

If you are interested in becoming and official, please contact any member of the Committee or Joanna at the Athletics Northern Ireland office or simply come along to any of the meetings. You will be made most welcome.

Knowledge/experience of athletics is not essential as full training will be provided. Full details of the qualifications pathway are available from the UKA website www.uka.org.uk and can be found in the Competitions/Officials Section.

Level 1 track and field courses can also be held by special request from clubs, schools or any other organisation. Courses were held recently for students in the Londonderry area and at Grosvenor High School in Belfast. For further information contact Joanna at the office (joanna@athleticsni.org )

If you are unsure what area you would like to specialise in (track, field, starter/marksman, timekeeper, etc), you are welcome to come along and help out at one of our events to get a feel for the roles. We also especially welcome anyone who wants to help out with general administration - please email Pam Brown (pamelabrown690@msn.com) to arrange.

UKA has recently developed a pathway for Endurance officials and we were pleased to offer a Level 2 course and Risk Assessment course on Sunday 25 March.  Six people attended the whole course and a further 3 attended the Risk Assessment course only.  The course was well-received and anyone interested in hosting or attending a course should contact Joanna at the office.

Details of the qualifications pathway are available from the UKA website www.uka.org.uk and can be found in the Competitions/Officials Section.

All existing Level 2 Endurance officials will have to attend a Risk Assessment Course by end December 2012 in order to maintain their Level 2 qualification. A course will be arranged to satisfy this requirement and it is planned that those attending will also be given an overview of the Level 2 course for information.

Health & Safety Courses

From April it is likely that all Level 2 officials will have to have attended a Health and Safety course. In the meantime, any official operating in the field on the long throws must have attended a course.

TUTOR INFORMATION

It is important that the tutors and office staff know their responsibilities in order for courses to run effectively and minimise license errors. The tutor information manual has been drawn up to provide a resource for tutors and ANI staff to refer to before each course.

If you are tutoring a course outside of Athletics NI, i.e. at a college or school, please ensure that the candidates provide an email for the officials mail-out.
