Mentoring is a powerful tool in the education and development of sports coaches
at all levels. If you’re interested in developing your skills in the area of mentoring other coaches, then this workshop is for you.
Duration: 3 hours
You Will Learn:
• how to design a mentoring programme that will support your coaches’ learning
• to increase the effectiveness of your mentoring relationship
Accompanying Resource- You will receive a copy of A Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches at the workshop.
A new mentoring system has been developed within Athletics Northern Ireland, therefore we are looking for coaches to apply to become a coach mentor.
Mentors will be linked with up to 2 coaches within Northern Ireland. Mentor coaches will be offered the chance to develop their mentoring skills through attendance at a Sports Coach UK ‘Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches’ workshop. All mentors will be given support and guidance throughout the process.
Mentoring has been taking place for many years through coaches on an informal basis and Athletics Northern Ireland would like to facilitate this learning in a more constructive manner. This will eventually help develop many coaches and athletes long term.
The purpose of the mentoring scheme will be for a mentor to link with one or two coaches/mentees in the same event group who wish to be involved in the process to share knowledge, experience and develop their coaching goals through learning.
Athletics Northern Ireland will provide opportunities for the mentor to develop mentoring skills by providing a workshop through Sports Coach UK ‘A Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches’
Any coaches who are interested in becoming a mentor should apply through an open application process and if successful will be placed with one or two mentees to support throughout the year. Please download the application form.
