Youth Academy
Athletics Northern Ireland’s Youth Academy (YA) is a Development Programme aimed at young athletic talent from age 14-17.
Athletes with identified medal winning potential will gain support and mentoring, along with their personal coach to assist them along the path to success.
Athletics NI hope to assist these athletes’s to achieve qualifying standards for all Major Youth Championships and develop them to their medal winning potential. Athletics NI would like to see the YA become a stepping stone to a high performance athletics career and prepare our young talent for their future as the Senior Athletics Stars of Northern Ireland.

Youth Academy News
The first Youth Academy athlete workshop of the 2012-2013 season took place on Thursday 6th December with 16 athletes in attendance. Pamela Gilpin and Kelley Fay from the SINI Performance Skills Unit addressed the topics of time management and goal setting. SINI were kind enough to provide every athlete with annual planners and during the evening athletes were encouraged to plot key competitions and training events. Pamela also directed athletes to exam board schedules for 2013 and encouraged athletes to plan well in advance and prioritize their weekly activities.
Kelley looked at athlete profiling and provided a template for each athlete to assess their technical, tactical psychological and physical strength and weaknesses. Athletes used this along with a fixture list of junior competitions to set short and long term goals. All Youth Academy athletes engaged well with practical tasks on the night and we look forward to seeing them at their next workshop.
