'Athletics Northern Ireland will create the best environment for everyone in the sport to achieve their maximum potential’
Athletics Northern Ireland have 5 strategic goals which assist in their vision:
- Increasing the level of participation
- Increasing the quality and quantity of coaches and officials
- Improving the standard of athletic clubs and their infrastructure
- Improve the standard of athletes performance and provide access to appropriate competition
- Improve the governance, management and profile of the sport.
Through these goals the Athletics NI Development team delivers many development initiatives, including club development and coach education.
Active Community Coaches are employed in various regions in NI which will assist Athletics NI in delivering development and participation.
Some initiatives include:
Star:Track / Sportshall / Elevating Athletics
30,40,50 Club / 30,40 50 League
ANI Junior Cross Country Squad
ANI Fundamental Programme through Athletic Networks
Athletics NI Development Pathway
The ‘Rising Stars’ is the development initiative which also includes athletes with a disability; these athletes must achieve standards to be part of the squad. After one/two years within the Rising Stars it is hoped that the athletes progress to be part of the Youth Academy through its set of standards.
Athletes then progress up through the Youth Academy to Performer Development Centres and then progress on to Elite level within the Sports Institute for Northern Ireland.
